The next meeting in the seminar series of the Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity “Decolonizing approaches to studying history and linguistic-cultural heritage. Methods, tools, results and challenges”

From Colonial Imperative to an Emic Tool. The Case of the museum in Wilamowice

will take place on

at 16:45 CET
in Room 9, Dobra 72
The long-standing struggle of the people of Wilamowice for the recognition of their identity and their language has been expressed over the years through the desire to create their own institution to protect their heritage. The museum, established a year ago, builds on a grassroots social movement that responds to the needs of the community. It has the potential to transform the perception of museums from a symbol of colonialism to an emic tool for local self-empowerment. In doing so, it aligns with the chang-ing mission and approach of museums in Poland, highlighting broader implications for the role of museums in decolonization, the reclamation of local identities, and the ongoing dialogue between dominant and marginalized communities.
