The next meeting in the seminar series of the Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity “Decolonizing approaches to studying history and linguistic-cultural heritage. Methods, tools, results and challenges”

The Linguistic Situation in Ukraine: Long-Term Effects of Linguicide and Postcolonial Challenges

will take place on

The presentation will explore issues related to the linguistic situation in Ukraine in the context of Russian-Ukrainian bilingualism, its historical background, and the challenges faced by Ukrainian citizens amid the ongoing war that has lasted for 11 years. The concept of linguicide and its applicability to describing the status of the Ukrainian language in the Soviet Union will be discussed. Additionally, the use of Ukraine’s linguistic situation in geopolitical matters and the challenges posed by the process of linguistic decolonization will be examined.
