New publication “Collective Retraumatisation of Minority and Indigenous Groups during the Global Health Crisis”
We are happy to share our most recent publication “Collective Retraumatisation of Minority and Indigenous Groups during the Global Health Crisis” in which we explored the mechanisms and symptoms of historical retraumatisation triggered by discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic among ethnic minorities in Poland (Kashubs and Silesians) and Indigenous people from Mexico.
We found that the higher levels of anxiety observed among communities experiencing discrimination could be attributed to a retraumatisation process in which historical traumatisation and its symptoms were associated with the negative psychological effects of COVID-19-related stigma. In other words, we argue that COVID-19 stigma and the related ethnic discrimination was associated with enhanced adverse psychological reactions potentially affecting the mental health of groups that are already historically traumatised.
