The next meeting in the seminar series of the Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity: “Instrumentalizing Queerness: Homonationalism in Times of Occupation”- Atef Amri, April 3, 2024

The next meeting in the seminar series of the Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity “Decolonizing approaches to studying history and linguistic-cultural heritage. Methods, tools, results and challenges”
Instrumentalizing Queerness: Homonationalism in Times of Occupation
will take place on
April 3, 2024
at 16:45 CET.

This seminar will revolve around the concept of Homonationalism. This term was developed by the scholar Jasbir Puar to describe how „acceptance” and „tolerance” of sexual minorities have become a way to measure the right to national sovereignty, and how the gay rights discourse became a tool of otherization. The presentation will use two examples: the EU’s attitude towards migration and potential EU candidates as an introductory example, & the case of Israeli pinkwashing as the main example.
